The Church of the Resurrection and St. Michael Parishes have over 100 years in rich histories. We are committed to Jesus Christ and the Church he founded, its teachings and traditions.

Our Long and Rich History

In 1849, mission priest, Fr. Dale came to Wausau and held the first service in the home of Walter McIndoe.

In 1871, the first mass was held at St. Mary’s church, a small white wooden church.

In 1883, first school was built at St. Mary’s.

In 1887, St. Michael Church was established. Fr. Luke Pescinski was the first pastor. The church burned down in 1894 on the day after Christmas.

In 1892, St. Mary’s permanent church building was built; it still stands today. Fr. Theodore Richard was the first pastor.

In 1895, St. Michael’s second church was built.

In 1905, St. Jame’s Church was founded. Fr. Joseph Brennan was the first pastor.

In 1912, St. Jame’s church was built. During construction, the dome collapsed. The building was completed and dedicated in 1912.

In 1917, St. Mary’s school was built.

In 1924, the Fransiscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration begin at St. Mary’s.

In 1930, the first school at St. James was constructed.

In 1953, fire gutted St. Mary’s Church.

In 1972, St. Michael’s third church was built. 

In 1998, The Church of the Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ was established.

In 2003, a new school was built at St. Michael and a gathering space was added.

In 2012, St. Michael Parish celebrates their 125 years anniversary (1887-2012) and the Church of the Resurrection celebrated their 100 years anniversary (1912-2012)
